HONOULIULI: A HISTORY AWAKENED TO CULMINATE 80TH COMMEMORATION AT HAWAII THEATRETickets now on sale for Sept. 27 finale event featuring Jake Shimabukuro, Kenny Endo and Hawaiʻi Youth Symphony

HONOLULU (Aug. 5, 2026) – Tickets are now on sale for Honouliuli: A History Awakened, the finale event of the 80th anniversary commemoration marking the closure of Honouliuli Internment Camp. The one-night benefit performance will take place Sunday, Sept. 27, at the historic Hawaii Theatre Center. Doors open at 3 p.m., and the program begins at 4 p.m. Tickets start at $35 and are available at HonouliuliAwakened.com.

Presented by Pacific Historic Parks, the performance will bring together music, hula, dance and poetry to reflect on Honouliuli’s history and the experiences of those who were incarcerated there during World War II.

The program will feature internationally acclaimed ukulele artist Jake Shimabukuro, who will debut an original composition inspired by Honouliuli; taiko master Kenny Endo; members of the Hawaiʻi Youth Symphony; Hui Iwa Academy; Jill Togawa’s Purple Moon Dance Project; Halla Huhm Korean Dance Studio; poet and former Hawaii State Senator Will Espero; and poets Sharon Fujimoto-Johnson and Lauren Fujimoto-Johnson.

“This finale brings together the history, education and community engagement at the heart of the 80th commemoration,” said Aileen Utterdyke, President and CEO of Pacific Historic Parks. “We welcome the public to join us for this powerful closing event and help carry Honouliuli’s lessons forward.”

Honouliuli: A History Awakened follows a series of educational programs that include the first public guided tours of Honouliuli National Historic Site, statewide documentary screenings and panel discussions, library exhibits and a speaker series.

Located in West Oahu, Honouliuli Internment Camp was the largest and longest-used incarceration site in Hawaii. U.S. residents and citizens of Japanese and European ancestry were unjustly detained there, along with more than 4,000 prisoners of war from across the Pacific and Europe.
