Here at Pacific Historic Parks, our volunteers make it possible to keep historic sites like Pearl Harbor National Memorial, Diamond Head State Monument, Honouliuli Historic Site, and many more, open and thriving for future generations to enjoy.

From guiding tours and engaging with visitors, to assisting with educational programs, supporting our flag flying and folding events, and aiding with our preservation efforts, our volunteers make a meaningful difference each and every day!

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Who can be a volunteer?
We welcome volunteers of all ages, including families, friends, and community members. Please note that some volunteer roles are better suited for specific age groups. For example, assisting in the Retail Store and Warehouse is typically best for adults. However, events such as Flag Folding are open to volunteers of all ages. Flag Flying is the only event that is restricted, reserved exclusively for active-duty military personnel. If you have any questions or would like more details, please email us at volunteers@pacifichistoricparks.org.
  • What do I wear?
For our open volunteering events, please wear comfortable civilian attire. For regularly scheduled volunteers, a t-shirt and nametag will be provided. For Flag Flying events, a Class A Dress Uniform is required (Flag Flying is a reserved event for active-duty military personnel only). We also recommend wearing comfortable shoes, as you may be standing for extended periods. Optional items include sunglasses and reef-safe sunscreen, especially when volunteering at Pearl Harbor National Memorial.
  • What do I need to bring?
Feel free to bring a reusable water bottle with you, as there are multiple water refill stations available. Please note that bags are not allowed in the park. For more information on bag restrictions, please visit the National Park Service page here to learn more about bag restrictions.
  • Will food be provided?
Food will be provided at Flag Flying and Folding Events. For regularly scheduled volunteers, meals are not provided. You are welcomed to bring food with you as long as it is in a clear, see-through bag or container that meets the National Park Service's bag restrictions. There is also a snack shop on site with sandwiches, snacks and drinks available for purchase.
  • Where do I park?
After signing up to be a volunteer, our Volunteer Coordinator will reach out to you with parking instructions. You will not need to pay for parking. Contact our Volunteer Coordinator at volunteers@pacifichistoricparks.org or (808) 808-1939 with any questions.

Contact us at volunteers@pacifichistoricparks.org or text our Volunteer Manager Jessica at (808) 647-0763 for any additional questions, concerns, or feedback
