HONOLULU (May 14, 2026) – Pacific Historic Parks (PHP) is proud to partner with the Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) Division of State Parks and the National Park Trust in supporting National Kids to Parks Day on Saturday, May 16, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Diamond Head State Monument.

Held annually in communities across the country, Kids to Parks Day celebrates outdoor play at local, state, and national parks. At Diamond Head State Monument, PHP will join more than two dozen community partners in offering free, hands-on activities, games, and educational booths to connect kids and their families with the natural and cultural significance of one of Hawaii’s most iconic landmarks. Event highlights include a Honolulu Fire Department ladder truck on display at 10 a.m. and a Hula Wahine performance by ‘Iolani Schools at 10:30 a.m.

“At Pacific Historic Parks, we believe that experiences in nature and history-rich places like Diamond Head build lifelong appreciation for the lands and stories that define Hawaii,” said Aileen Utterdyke, President and CEO of PHP. “This event aligns with our mission to Remember, Honor, and Understand, and we’re proud to support opportunities that bring communities together to care for these shared spaces.”

Located just minutes from Waikiki, Diamond Head State Monument’s historic hiking trail, panoramic coastal views, and military history draws more than a million visitors annually. PHP supports preservation and educational programming at the site, improving public understanding of its significance. Events like Kids to Parks Day give families a new way to experience Diamond Head and inspire stewardship of Hawaii’s natural and historic places.

Now in its 16th year nationally, Kids to Parks Day is celebrated in communities and public spaces across all 50 states. PHP has proudly supported the event at Diamond Head since 2018 as part of its broader commitment to connecting people to important sites through education and community engagement.

There is no cost for Hawaii residents to attend. Visitors with valid park reservations are also welcome to join at no additional charge.
