HONOLULU (Dec. 24, 2025) – Pacific Historic Parks (PHP) will sponsor Honouliuli National Historic Site’s 10th-Anniversary Exhibition, opening with a free “First Friday” reception on Friday, Jan. 2, 5:30–8:00 p.m. at Downtown Art Center’s Main Gallery (second floor). The exhibition is free and on view Jan. 2–17, Tuesday through Sunday, 11 a.m.–5 p.m., and serves as the finale to a yearlong series of commemorative and educational programs highlighting Honouliuli’s story.
“Art has a unique way of communicating history,” said Aileen Utterdyke, President and CEO of Pacific Historic Parks. “After an engaging year of community events that explored Honouliuli’s legacy, we are proud to support this exciting finale and the local artists whose work helps visitors learn about this historic site.”
The show brings together Hawaii artists and community partners to share new creative perspectives on Honouliuli’s history and significance. Works span mixed media, printmaking, and textiles, reflecting on themes of place, memory, and resilience. Participating artists include Mark Stewart (mixed media), Laura Smith (printmaking), Michelle Schwengel-Regala (textiles), Paula Nokes (printmaking), and others.
Honouliuli was designated a National Monument in 2015 and redesignated a National Historic Site in 2019. Managed by the National Park Service, it preserves stories central to Hawaii’s World War II experience, including martial law, incarceration, and prisoners of war. Pacific Historic Parks
Pacific Historic Parks (PHP) partners with the National Park Service to offer the only complimentary day-of, in-person Navy-operated shuttle boat tickets to the USS Arizona Memorial. As the official 501(c)(3) nonprofit partner of the Pearl Harbor National Memorial—home of the USS Arizona—Pacific Historic Parks helps preserve Pearl Harbor’s history through education, interpretive programs, research, preservation and restoration. Every year on the anniversary of December 7th, 1941, PHP works closely with the National Park Service and U.S. Navy to honor the legacy of all WWII veterans, and commemorate the sacrifices made by our nation’s Greatest Generation during one of the most pivotal events in American history.
Pacific Historic Parks operates the official USS Arizona Memorial Narrated Tour Desk, where visitors can join the free shuttle boat standby queue and purchase the only self-guided audio tours available of the Memorial grounds, Museums and USS Arizona. Visitors can grasp the magnitude of the Day of Infamy through four separate virtual reality experiences offered by PHP, and peruse books, apparel and memorabilia in the Museum Store. Pacific Historic Parks is open daily from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. For more information, call toll-free at 1-866-332-1941 or visit www.pacifichistoricparks.org.
