Pearl Harbor National Memorial Reopens

HONOLULU – The National Park Service today announced that the Pearl Harbor National Memorial will reopen tomorrow following a closure that lasted just over three months. The USS Bowfin is also reopening. 

This follows the guidelines by Mayor Kirk Caldwell allowing museums on Oahu to reopen starting tomorrow, June 19. 

NPS closed the park on March 17 following the World Health Organization’s declaration of COVID-19 as a global pandemic.

“We said when the park closed that we support all steps to limit the potential of community spread of coronavirus,” Aileen Utterdyke, CEO and President of Pacific Historic Parks, said.  “And that’s still the case three months later. The health of safety of our visitors and employees remains our number one priority.”

During the shutdown, Pacific Historic Parks reconfigured the USS Arizona Memorial Museum Store with safety improvements to abide with CDC guidelines.  There will be limits on the number of people allowed in the store and in the Virtual Reality and Audio Booth Rental Centers to conform with social distancing guidelines.

Pacific Historic Parks is awaiting approval to reopen the War in the Pacific National Historical Park on Guam, the American Memorial Park in Saipan and the Kalaupapa National Historical Park on Molokai.  PHP is also working with the state in support of reopening Diamond Head State Monument.
