TWO OF OAHU’S MOST VISITED HISTORIC SITES REMAIN OPEN AS FEDERAL GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN CONTINUES

Friday, October 10, 2025

HONOLULU (October 10, 2025) – As the federal government shutdown continues, Pacific Historic Parks (PHP) reminds the public that both Pearl Harbor National Memorial (home of the USS Arizona Memorial) and Diamond Head State Monument remain open seven days a week, offering residents and visitors meaningful ways to experience two of Oahu’s most historically significant sites.

While many federally operated national parks across the country remain closed, Pearl Harbor National Memorial remains open thanks to donor and partner support. The state-managed Diamond Head State Monument is unaffected by the current shutdown.

To better serve guests during this period, PHP has added two new visitor kiosks at Diamond Head State Monument and will soon expand their operating hours to improve accessibility and service. These kiosks provide helpful information, interpretive materials, and on-site support, helping PHP educate more guests than ever while advancing its mission to ensure every visitor leaves with a deeper appreciation for Hawaii’s history.

Operating Hours:

  • Diamond Head State Monument: 6 a.m.–6 p.m., seven days a week; Entry and parking registration required for nonresidents.

  • Pearl Harbor National Memorial: 7 a.m.–5 p.m., seven days a week.

“As stewards of both Pearl Harbor National Memorial and Diamond Head State Monument, we encourage our local residents and visitors to experience their history, beauty, and cultural significance firsthand,” said Aileen Utterdyke, President and CEO of Pacific Historic Parks. “Visitor engagement at our kiosks and museum stores directly supports preservation efforts, educational programs, and the continued operation of these important sites.”
